There are endless reasons to be proud of Israel: Culture, science, sport, technology, Jewish life, nature, and innovation ­ to name a few. Here are 60 more reasons to celebrate Israel's 60 years of independence:

1. Israel is the only Jewish country in the world.
2. Life expectancy in Israel is one of the highest in the world: 82.2 years for women and 78.5 years for men.
3. Relative to its population, Israel is the largest immigrant-absorbing nation in the world.
4. The Jewish population in Israel consists 40% of world Jewry.

Israel Commended by Commonwealth

The Virginia  House of  Delegates held a ceremony recently to present Israeli Embassy Acting Counsel General to Virginia and Director of Public Affairs Rafael Harpaz with a resolution congratulating Israel on its 60th anniversary.
The resolution was co-patroned by all 99 members of the House and all 40 state senators. The legislators gave a standing ovation as chief patron delegate Robert Hull presented the plaque to Harpaz.
House Speaker William Howell noted that Israel is the closest ally of the U.S. in the region. Senior representatives of the greater Washington and Richmond communities attended the important event.

A Clearer Vision of the World as a Jew

Those were the thoughts that followed me throughout Israel. When my friend first told me of her experiences there, I figured it was because she was more involved in Judaism than I was. She kept bringing it up, and after several months, I ran into the little stand outside the VCU Commons and said to myself, "Hey, what's the harm in trying?"

A Unified Jewish World from Haaretz

For many years, the Jewish Agency has endeavored to achieve two main goals: to strengthen the bonds between Jews in the Diaspora, and to help build a better society here in Israel by closing social gaps and helping national priority areas. In 1994, the Jewish Agency, together with the United Jewish Communities and Keren Hayesod - United Israel Appeal, initiated a grand project whose ultimate goal makes both of these visions possible: Partnership 2000 (P2K).

How Richmond Started the Connection with Emek Hefer

The Richmonders who traveled to Israel late in June to select a community for a new Jewish Agency for Israel project have come to a consensus and chosen Emek Hefer as the Partnership 2000 or P2K partner. Partnership 2000 is a program of the Jewish Agency for Israel that seeks to broaden and deepen Diaspora Jewry's connection with the people of Israel through collaborative programs and exchanges. read more
